Overcoming Writer’s Block

The first step in creating knowledge with documents is writing those thoughts down. If this is not a problem for you, skip this section. But if you’re one of those people who occasionally suffers from writer’s block, here are a couple of hints for getting past it.

Many people who have a hard time writing their thoughts find it much easier to express those thoughts orally. If, in your work, you speak to other people about the ideas you need to write about, the solution is easy. Bring in a small micro-recorder, and transcribe what you say. This can give you a good head start on your writing, because a 30-minute talk can be approximately 25 transcribed pages.
