Downloading Files with FTP

You already know how to download files from the Web (unless you skipped Hour 11, "Finding Programs and Files," and if so, you're in big trouble!). But some files you may want are stored not on Web servers, but on FTP servers.

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, but you really don't need to know that. Everybody uses just the abbreviation, like NBC or VCR. Still, the name says it all: FTP is used for transferring files between computers. The files stored on FTP servers are waiting to be downloaded by an FTP client, a program on your computer that communicates with FTP servers through the Internet.
