People-Finding from Internet Explorer 5

Besides searching the Web, Internet Explorer's built-in search facility (see Hour 10) can optionally search LDAP directories. The following To Do shows how.

To Do: Use Internet Explorer 5 to People-Search

  1. In IE5 while looking at any Web page, click the Search button on the toolbar (Figure 12.8).

  2. In the Explorer bar, click the radio button next to Find a Person's Address (Figure 12.9).

  3. Open the list under Search For, and choose the type of information you're looking for: mailing address or email address (Figure 12.10).

  4. Fill in as much as you know about the person, then click the Search button (Figure 12.11).

  5. If you want, you can customize the way IE5's people-searcher works, choosing which directories it uses and in which order. Click the Customize button, then choose options in the form that appears on the right (Figure 12.12).
