Hour 14. Joining a Mailing List

The Internet boasts two different facilities commonly described as discussion groups that differ only in the medium on which the discussion takes place. In the first type of discussion group, mailing lists, you read the discussion in email messages you receive, and contribute to the discussion by sending email. In the second type of discussion group, newsgroups, you read messages on, and send messages to, a news server (more about newsgroups in Hour 15, "Reading and Posting to Newsgroups").

Regardless of the type you use, discussion groups are a great way to keep up with news about any imaginable topic, and to engage in conversation and debate with others online who share your interests.
