Part III: .Mac and Your Digital Life > Using iSync with .Mac

Chapter 9. Using iSync with .Mac

As part of its Digital Hub strategy, Apple not only paid close attention to how people were using their Macs, but also to the other devices that people use in their daily life. As Bluetooth technology spread from Europe and Asia to North America, more and more people—Mac users—found themselves with Bluetooth-enabled cell phones and PDAs, but didn't have a way to synchronize the devices with their Mac. Apple realized that something needed to be done to help Mac users share the information on their Mac with their devices, and the result was iSync (http://www.apple.com/isync). iSync is a small application that synchronizes contacts, calendars, and bookmarks from your Mac with your .Mac account and other devices that are part of your digital life.

Think of iSync as a conduit that shuttles information from your Mac to other devices and back again. iSync is used to synchronize the Address Book contacts, iCal calendars, and Safari's bookmarks to your .Mac account and to portable devices connected to or detected by your Mac. iSync provides a way for you to always have access to your contacts, calendar, and bookmarks from wherever you are, or on whatever device it is you're using.
