Chapter 7. Hosting Your Blog Yourself > Enter FTP Settings p. 96

Enter FTP Settings p. 96

  • It's completely up to you to decide if you want your blog on your site's home page (http://www.sarahsnotecards.com) or in a subdirectory of that site (http://www.sarahsnotecards.com/beans/). Just be careful you don't tell Blogger to overwrite any existing Web page files you may have.

  • Despite the caption, it's not true that the entire path must already exist on the server. Only the Web directory (often called WWW or public_html, as here) must already exist. Blogger will create the subfolders for you.

  • If you use index.html for the Blog Filename, you'll be able to write the Blog URL without the final file name.

  • If you don't enter your FTP Username and FTP Password, not only will you have to enter it each time you post an entry, but your blog's team members (see Chapter 6) will also have to enter the password in order to post entries. Team members will be able to save drafts of their posts even if they don't have the password.
