Part: 4 Specialized Search Engines > Other Search Tools from A to Z

Chapter 20. Other Search Tools from A to Z

You've seen what a breeze it can be to use highly specialized search engines like InfoSpace (www.infospace.com) and Zip2 (www.zip2.com). Because they're designed for a single, relatively narrow task—looking for people and businesses in white pages and yellow pages directories similar to those used by telephone companies—the search forms are simple and there's very little complexity to master. Just fill in the blanks and away you go.

For the most part, that's what you'll find with the 29 special-purpose search engines profiled in this chapter. Each is designed to handle searching for a particular type of information really well—whether it's the latest book by a favorite author or Microsoft's Technical Support phone numbers or your Aunt Harriet's zip code. Many offer help pages and search tips, but for most of them, you won't need to learn any special search rules and commands. In our experience, about the only thing that's difficult about special-purpose search engines is remembering to use them.
