Chapter 14. Netscape Search

Good to Know

  • Netscape Search is the default search engine for the Netscape portal site, and it's one of several search options for Netscape Navigator.

  • Search results come from three main sources: Netscape's Smart Browsing database of “official” Web sites, the Open Directory Project, and the gigantic Google database.

  • You can use Boolean operators, plus and minus signs, and wildcards with Netscape Search, but the site offers little else in the way of “power search” features.

  • Where it really shines is in locating Web sites for companies, brand-name or trademarked products, and sites that have been identified as the best on a particular topic.
