Chapter 13. MSN Search

Good to Know

  • MSN Search is the default search engine for Internet Explorer (IE) and Microsoft Network (MSN).

  • It's powered by Inktomi's 110-million-page database (the smallest of the top search engines covered in this book) and uses LookSmart for its Web directory.

  • MSN Search encourages you to keep your queries simple. Boolean operators and most other “power search” features are available only with Advanced Search.

  • Despite its relatively small database and limited search options, MSN Search does a surprisingly good job of returning high-quality results.

  • For more precise searching of a larger database, use Google or one of the other “Big Six.”
