Chapter 11. AOL Search

Good to Know

  • AOL Search is the default search engine for America Online (AOL).

  • Its main benefit is that it allows you to search both the Web and AOL's proprietary content—assuming you're an AOL subscriber.

  • If you're not a subscriber, you can use AOL Search, but your results will be limited to information found on the Web.

  • AOL Search's Web results come from the Open Directory Project, supplemented by Inktomi's relatively small 110-million-page database.

  • You can use Boolean operators and wildcards in your queries, but AOL Search offers little else in the way of “power search” features.
