Chapter 9. Northern Light > Improving Results with Field Search

Improving Results with Field Search

As you may recall from our discussion of keywords in Chapter 2, one of the best ways to narrow the focus of a search with any search engine is to zero in on specific fields. Searching the titles of Web pages and documents, for example, can reduce your results list considerably and help you find items that feature (instead of simply mentioning) your search terms.

With Northern Light's Simple Search form, you can use the field-search terms listed here to find Web pages and Special Collection documents. In each case, type your search word or phrase immediately following the colon, without leaving a space.
