Chapter 12. Excite > Searching with Excite

Searching with Excite

Whether you use the search form on the Excite home page (www.excite.com), or the one on the page devoted exclusively to searching (www.excite.com/search), the process for entering a query is the same. Here are the key points to keep in mind:

  • You can express your query as a plain-English question, one or more unique keywords, or a phrase in quotes.

  • By default, Excite performs an OR search, looking for any of the words in your query.

  • For more precise searches, you can use plus and minus signs to require (+) or exclude (-) words and phrases, or use the Boolean operators AND, OR, AND NOT, and parentheses. Full caps are required for Boolean operators.

  • Except for Boolean operators, Excite searches are not case sensitive. You'll get the same results whether you use uppercase, lowercase, or a mix of the two.
