Using Advanced Search

Many AltaVista fans never venture beyond the search engine's main page. They master the Basic Search form and use it exclusively for most of their Internet searches. If they can't find what they're looking for with Basic Search, they just move on to another engine.

But power users and professional searchers will tell you that AltaVista's Advanced Search form (Figure 5.36) is worth taking the time to learn. In fact, some of what you've learned already about Basic Search applies to Advanced Search as well. The techniques for using wildcards, performing a case-sensitive search, and field searching are the same on both the Basic and Advanced Search forms.
