Chapter 22. Webcams > Your Online Webcam

Your Online Webcam

Okay, so you've bought your webcam, you've got all your hardware and software in place, and you know how you're going to send your images to the Web server. Now it's time to decide what you're going to do with your webcam. The best part about making this decision is that the options are limitless. You can point the camera out your window and add images to your own Web page, run your own video chatroom, use the camera to watch your room while you're away on vacation, or come up with something entirely different!

Once you've decided how you want to use the camera, you should also put some thought into how you want to present your images on the Internet. You might already have your own Web site where you'd like to display some webcam images or this may be your first opportunity to try your hand at HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). In either case, you should experiment with the type of page you'd like to use. If you're new to coding Web pages, you might try a standard HTML page featuring your webcam image as the main attraction. Or if you're more experienced, you should try to incorporate some additional features to make the page more usable and user-friendly.
