You've heard of remote workers. They're the people sitting in their pajamas at the computer, working with their feet up, while you endure a 45-minute commute, only to be greeted by corporate politics and bad coffee. You know their enviable life has been made possible with remote access, but what exactly is it?

Remote access connects your computer to a network (or computer) at another location. With it, you can connect to your office computer and work from a home office, access a corporate network from an overseas subsidiary, or troubleshoot a distant network server from your office. It's in use in a variety of ways. Some examples would include teleworkers, traveling executives, help desk professionals, and meter readers.
