Chapter 16. Streaming Media

Chapter 16. Streaming Media

Streaming media is a catchall term. It includes the software to distribute media files, as well as the files themselves. Audio and video files created specifically for the Internet are streaming media. So are the presentations that include them. Streaming media can be traditional, such as Internet radio stations, or completely new. An example would be distance learning courses with audio, video, and slide presentations.

Virtually every computer sold today includes multimedia components for high-quality video and audio playback. With your computer (and streaming media), you can listen to radio stations from around the world, watch movie previews, and even earn a degree from a distant university.
