Workplace Surveillance

You may not be aware that your employer is spying on you, but it can be. The techniques are the same as ones used by hackers. Workplace surveillance is a growing trend. Employers can use a variety of methods to track cyberslackers. Employers are not required to notify you that you are being observed, so they can do it without your consent or knowledge. It goes hand in hand with the growing number of employees using their computers for personal use and leaking sensitive information. Employers also feel compelled to watch their workers to avoid sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits that result from offensive emails circulating within the corporate mail system. Instead of selective monitoring, it's become more prevalent to monitor everything and everyone.

There are three ways employers can easily track employees' computer usage:

Log files

Desktop monitoring programs
