Government

The government is one of the biggest users of P2P technologies. P2P technologies are specifically suited for government work because of their dynamic ability to communicate and transfer information in both the wired and wireless environments. When used as a complementary system to VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), today's secure P2P technologies are providing the kinds of collaboration and networking tools needed for real-time communication systems in both peacetime and wartime.

During the late 1990s, the government was involved in the review and implementation of different types of P2P technologies rapidly becoming available in the public sector. The Department of Defense authorized various types of P2P software for use in the campaign against terrorism in the Middle East. (Some of the 9/11 terrorists used P2P technologies to collaborate prior to the attack on America.) By using applied cryptography, burst technologies, frequency skipping, and other high-tech techniques, P2P technologies can become more secure.
