HTML editors

In searching for the right HTML editor, you'll discover that there are many different offerings to choose from. In addition to commercial editors that you can purchase, there is a variety of freeware and shareware editors available. Your skill level or personal comfort zone will be what determines whether you choose a WYSIWYG editor or a text markup editor.

WYSIWYG

WYSIWYG is an acronym meaning “What You See Is What You Get.” The editing environment of a WYSIWYG editor can be compared with using a word processor. As you type your document in the word processor, you're seeing a representative example of how it will appear on the printed page. Various buttons or options on the toolbar allow you to manipulate your text and align specific sections as you desire. The concept of WYSIWYG editing is similar to that of a word processor. You start with a blank canvas and type and format your content directly on the screen as you want it to appear on the Web. Using the tools the editor provides, you can add graphics or photos and position them as desired. The editor builds the HTML for you while showing you a representative example of your Web site as it will appear online.
