Third-Party Plug-Ins

Third-Party Plug-Ins

Third-party plug-ins are Premiere add-ons that do not normally come installed with Premiere. The Smart Sound Quicktracks application, for example, is third-party software, offered on a separate CD when Premiere is purchased. Adobe.com (www.adobe.com) defines plug-ins as software modules that enhance and extend your creativity and productivity from directly within Adobe’s applications. Plug-ins are easy to install. Simply copy them into your Premiere Plug Ins folder in the Premiere 6.5 directory on your hard drive. That’s it! You’re done. Restart Premiere and start playing!

Most plug-ins are simply transitions, but these are transitions unavailable in Adobe products. Some of these plug-ins also offer options for text that could only be accomplished in Photoshop or Illustrator, turning Premiere into a one-stop shop. Perhaps the most popular of the third-party software developers among the Premiere veterans is Boris FX, which supplies special effects and transitions that make an application like Premiere even better. Beyond Boris, though, are a number of developers who all want to take Premiere to the next level. You can get an idea of what third-party plug-ins are available (and supported) by going to http://www.adobe.com/products/plugins/premiere/main.html.
