Adobe Illustrator–Handy Tool for Mattes and Masks

Adobe Illustrator–Handy Tool for Mattes and Masks

For those of you comfortable working with vector graphics—clip art and drawings that are created by a series of points containing mathematical code that creates lines and curves rather than individual pixels—Adobe Illustrator is another terrific tool to use in conjunction with Premiere. With Adobe Illustrator, text can be manipulated on a variety of paths to create grand arches or spiral patterns descending toward a center point. Image masks (shapes created to reveal only parts of a larger image) of snowflakes, corporate logos, and starbursts can all be created in Illustrator, the vector tools providing you numerous options to create exactly the look you need for your project.

Save the file in its native format (.AI for Adobe Illustrator) and then import it into Premiere just as we imported Photoshop images (flattened). Placing it in the Video 2 track allows you to work with a variety of mattes and transparency settings to create incredible end effects with your artwork.
