Chapter 12. Hints and Tips for New DV Editors

Editing video can turn raw footage into gold. With skillful editing, special events and home movies become great fun to watch. Adobe Premiere includes many terrific features that can improve the quality of your video. There are audio filters for boosting and improving sound. There are video filters that can brighten poorly lit scenes and improve the look of your footage in innumerable ways. Premiere also makes it easy to incorporate titles, captions, and credits that make watching videos even more informative and entertaining. It should be clear to you, after having read this far, that the real question is not “What can you do with Premiere?” but “What can’t you do with Premiere?” Well, actually, there is a lot you shouldn’t do in Premiere!

Premiere is so easy to use and its capabilities are so vast that it’s very easy to overdo it—using its powers to excess. So, we’re going to take some time to talk about some of the things you shouldn’t do in Premiere. Notice, I didn’t say can’t, I said shouldn’t.
