Using Your Camera to Convert Analog Video to Digital

So, you’ve got your DV camera connected to your computer via FireWire. You are now looking at a huge stack of VHS tapes[md]hour upon hour of footage. You may also notice (as I did with the purchase of my Canon ZR10) that you have the cables needed to hook up your DV camera to a VCR.

NOTE

For the examples in this book, the camera used is a Canon ZR10. You may have similar interfaces and options (especially if you own the new Canon ZR models), but not all MiniDV cameras are created equal. Some cameras have only A/V OUT to output analog video to a TV or VCR. Consult your camera’s owner’s manual for details on your camera, but it is best to have a DV camera that has the capability of A/V IN and OUT. Also note: Some cameras have dual-use jacks[md]the jacks can both INPUT and OUTPUT video and audio,
