Chapter 1. DV 101 > Video and Editing Terms

Video and Editing Terms

The terms that follow represent the essential concepts involved in filming footage for editing in Premiere and outputting your work. Some of these terms you may see in the exercises throughout this book. They aren’t tough to grasp. They are, however, good to know when working in your editing bay and talking shop with other DV editors.

CTI

The CTI, or Current Time Indicator, is the vertical line cursor on the timeline. The CTI is your position on the timeline that displays the current frame of video, and is used for any number of other timeline operations. It’s a very important term to remember because you’ll see it throughout the book and elsewhere. It is sometimes called the edit line by old Premiere users or, less often, the scrubber.
