Part 3. Completing Three Simple CD Projects

Part 3. Completing Three Simple CD Projects

In this chapter, we're going to de-emphasize the tools and concentrate on common projects. We'll address some universal problems and work on concepts that you should find helpful in your professional or personal computer life.

First, now that you know how to back up data, we'll do a project that also shows which files and folders are important to safeguard. (In Chapter 9, “Tips and Techniques,” we'll cover DVD, multimedia work, and backup strategies in even more detail.)

We've covered different ways to archive and burn a music collection. Now we'll think through our own personal collection and burn it to disc.

Finally, we want to combine some of the main data formats on the PC to create an interactive project, so we'll make a CD-ROM that we can burn on the smaller “business card”-sized discs that you can buy at electronic stores. We'll do this by concentrating on the projects themselves.

By now, even if we happen to select one of the programs for a specific task, you'll understand the concepts well enough to achieve the same results with the program you use. These projects are meant to teach you tasks so you can apply them to your own situation at home or at work.
