Changing System Settings

The System Settings set of tabs is new to Final Cut Pro 4. It contains settings that affect how your computer is set up to operate Final Cut Pro. The first of the five tabs is Scratch Disks.

Scratch Disks

Figure 2.9 shows the first tab in the System Settings window. Scratch disks are disk drives and partitions that are selected for the storage of media files. Final Cut Pro 4 supports settings for up to 12 scratch disks at one time. Video files, audio files, and all render files can be set to be stored there. When the first disk is nearly full (as set in the Minimum Allowable Free Space On Scratch Disks box), the disk with the most available space is used next, and so on. It's recommended that you leave at least 50 to 100MB of any disk drive's capacity free.
