Chapter 10. Designing Titles and Menus > Kerning and Leading Text

Kerning and Leading Text

Occasionally you may want to adjust the space between letters or characters, a process called kerning, or change the vertical space between lines of text, called leading. Here's how.

To kern text

1.
Select the text that you want to adjust and click the gray bounding box to display the control points.

2.
On the Title Editor toolbar at the bottom, click the Set Kerning. Leading, and Skew tool (Figure 10.42).

Figure 10.42. This font is too compressed for my taste. I'll fix it by clicking the Set Kerning, Leading, and Skew tool.

3.
Position the pointer over one of the side control points.

The pointer changes to the kern pointer (Figure 10.43).

Figure 10.43. Place the kern pointer over a control point on the right or left and stretch out the text.

4.
Drag the pointer in or out to achieve the desired spacing.

Studio changes the distance between the letters (Figure 10.44).
