Chapter 7. Integrating Photoshop > Creating Subpictures in Photoshop

Creating Subpictures in Photoshop

Photoshop enables you to work with all three color subpicture layers available in the DVD spec and has more flexibility than Encore DVD in fine-tuning each layer. However, subpictures are somewhat limited. They are simplified color overlays, so note that any gradients, feathering, or antialiasing in a subpicture layer will be lost. That nice Photoshop airbrush effect you want to use for a button highlight will flatten out to a jagged blob when you use it as a subpicture layer. So stick to solid colors and simple, sharp-edged elements, and use a light touch on the opacity settings. Other techniques to use in working with multiple subpicture layers will be covered later in the chapter.
