Compression

Compression was discussed in the previous lesson on making DVDs and the same principles apply here: compression is the process of using mathematical formulas to reduce the file size of your video. Compressing video in essence, throws away enough data in your video files to make it smaller, yet retains enough data to ensure the image is still of good quality. The more you compress your video the smaller your file size becomes. If you compress it too much, your image quality will deteriorate, sometimes unacceptably. If you do not compress your video enough, the image may look great, but the file will be too large for users to download.
