Adding a Timeline Marker

Unlike a clip marker, which is attached to an individual clip, timeline markers are placed in the timeline and are used to mark specific points in your movie. Additionally, you can add comments to a timeline marker to help yourself (or others) identify the purpose of a marker.

1.
Click on the top of the Timeline window to make it active. Choose Edit > Deselect All. Press the Home key on your keyboard to place the current-time indicator at the beginning of your timeline.

Press the Page Down key on your keyboard to advance to the Snowman2.avi clip at twenty-four seconds, 10 frames (00;00;24;10) in your timeline. You may need to press the PageDown key two or three times to reach this point.

Click the Marker icon () located on the left hand side of the Timeline window to add a timeline marker at the location of your current-time indicator. It may be difficult to see, as the marker is immediately beneath the blue handle. Press the PageDown key three times to advance to the 00;00;52;01 mark. You should now clearly be able to see the first marker you added. Timeline markers appear at the top of the Timeline window in the time ruler.

Click the Marker icon again to add another marker at your current-time indicator. The two markers you have added will mark the location of where you would like to add titles.

Double-click on the first marker you added to the timeline to open the Marker window. In the Comments field type Add first title here. Click OK.

Changing the duration value in the Marker window visually extends the length of the marker in the timeline.

Move your current-time indicator to the left so that you can see the second marker you added. Double-click on the marker to open the Marker window. In the Comments field type Add second title here. Click OK.

Double-click on the first marker you added to view the marker window. Think of marker comments as notes to yourself to help you in your editing projects. Click OK to close the marker window.
