Using the Monitor Window

Depending on your needs or preferences, the Monitor window can appear in two incarnations: dual view or single view. In dual view, the left side of the Monitor window is the source view, where you view individual clips; the right side is the program view, where you view the edited sequence (Figure 5.1). Most editors prefer this layout not only because it's familiar, but also because it enables them to see the source and sequence side by side, which helps them make editing decisions. You can even gang the two views, so that the source and sequence play synchronously. This feature is invaluable when you need to preview the timing of certain edits or see other editing relationships.
