Timebase

The timebase of a project determines how Premiere Pro calculates time divisions, expressed in frames per second (fps) (Figure 16.1). Strictly speaking, you shouldn't confuse the timebase with the frame rate, which usually refers to the number of unique frames contained in a clip. In other words, a clip's frame rate may be conformed to the project's timebase (see the next section, “Frame Rate”).
