Specifying Audio Hardware Options

To record, process, and output audio, Premiere Pro uses your system's audio hardware. Although a run-of-the-mill audio card is adequate for stereo input and output, multichannel recording and output require an ASIO-compliant audio device. ASIO is a widely accepted audio transfer protocol that allows software like Premiere Pro to use the multichannel recording and output capabilities of more powerful sound cards. With the proper hardware, you can use the audio mixer to record multiple tracks simultaneously and to mix and output audio in 5.1 surround.
