Fading, Panning, and Balancing

Two tasks are basic to audio mixing: fading and panning. Fading adjusts the volume, or level, that the track outputs. Over the course of a sequence, chances are you'll need to control the relative levels of the audio tracks. You may need to match the levels of dialogue recorded in different takes. Or you may need to gradually change the level of a sound effect track. For example, you might fade down the sound of a car to make it seem as though the car is driving away.
