Chapter 4. Managing Clips > Viewing Clip Properties

Viewing Clip Properties

If you need more information about a clip than the Project window provides, you can view detailed information by using the Get Properties For command. You can also view the properties for any media file on a disk. When you select a movie file, the Properties window provides an analysis of the movie's data rate, which can help you troubleshoot a file that isn't playing back properly. For an explanation of data rates, see Chapter 16, “Video and Audio Settings.”

To view properties for a file or clip

  • Do one of the following:

    • Choose File > Get Properties For > File and choose a file in the Get Properties dialog box.

    • Select a clip and choose File > Get Properties For > Selection (Figure 4.63).

Figure 4.63. Select a clip and choose File > Get Properties For > Selection.

A Properties dialog box appears listing the properties of the selected item (Figure 4.64).

Figure 4.64. The Properties dialog box contains detailed information about the clip, including an analysis of its data rate.
