Chapter 14. Effects in Action

Chapter 14. Effects in Action

In the previous chapter, you learned how Premiere Pro's unified approach to effects lets you add and adjust a wide range of effects using a relatively small number of techniques. But although there's some truth to the saying “if you know one, you know them all,” when it comes to effects, it's worthwhile to discuss some effects in a little more detail.

This chapter covers the standard video effects, or filters. Obviously, the scope of this book doesn't allow for a complete and detailed explanation of every effect—much less the infinite iterations and combinations. Nor would it be useful to attempt such a discussion. Instead, most sections briefly describe each filter category and list the filters they contain. Along the way, you'll pick up plenty of helpful tips. Special attention is devoted to the Levels filter and the Color Corrector filter. They're distinguished both by their usefulness and by their specialized controls, and therefore merit a more thorough treatment.
