Chapter 7. Editing in the Timeline > Customizing the Time Ruler

Customizing the Time Ruler

As in any other timeline, the Timeline window measures time horizontally, along a time ruler. By default, the time ruler starts at zero, but you can set the ruler to start at any number you choose. The time ruler uses the counting system you specified in the project settings—which for most DV projects is drop-frame timecode. However, you can toggle the ruler between video frames and audio units. In Chapter 6, you learned that changing the source view's timeline to audio units enables you to set more precise audio In and Out points. In the same way, you can set the Timeline window's time ruler to audio units to view audio clips in greater detail and make precise, sample-based adjustments.
