Chapter 6. Creating a Sequence > Setting Split Edit Points

Setting Split Edit Points

When you set In and Out points for a linked clip—a clip that contains both video and audio—both tracks share the same In point and Out point. Most editors wait until after they've assembled a rough cut to create split edits (also known as L-cuts and J-cuts), in which the audio and video use different In or Out points. (You'll learn a number of ways to create split edits in the following chapters.) However, you can mark audio and video In and Out points separately using the source view's editing controls. The clip will then have a split edit when you first add it to a sequence. (See “Adding Clips by Dragging” later in this chapter.)
