Understanding Transition Duration and Alignment

In the Timeline window, transitions appear as clip-like objects whose width and position correspond with their duration and alignment (relative to the cut point). Once you add a transition, you can adjust its duration and alignment freely. However, its initial settings are more limited. A transition's initial duration is determined by a default setting you specify; its initial alignment is limited to three options, depending on where you drop it relative to the cut: Center of Cut, Start of Cut, or End of Cut. Understanding these options makes it easier to plan for a transition beforehand and to adjust it afterward:
