Movie Files and Export Presets

There are a number of reasons you might export a movie file: to create a file you can play from a CD-ROM, deliver over the Web, or use in another program.

For every delivery medium, there are numerous format categories, also known as media architectures. Each architecture, in turn, includes numerous options for specifying the movie’s fundamental characteristics, such as the frame size, frame rate, audio quality, and so on. Options also dictate the particular compression scheme, or codec, used to encode the file. The codec helps determine the file’s ultimate size and software compatibility.
