Chapter 11. Export > Exporting to Tape

Exporting to Tape

Using the Export to Tape command, you can output video to a connected camera or deck through your IEEE 1394 or other capture device. You can export any clip you open in the Clip view or, more likely, the sequence in the Timeline view and Timeline window. Using IEEE 1394 or add-on device control, Premiere Elements can activate your deck automatically (see the task, “To set-up device control” in Chapter 3).

You can even choose where on the tape to start recording, if you can provide a timecode number at the start time. To do so, however, your tape must have timecode on it, at least at the beginning of the tape. You can provide timecode by recording a little footage (say, a minute or two) with the lens cap on. This way, Premiere Elements has some timecode to latch onto when cuing the tape automatically. (For more about timecode, see the sidebar, “Timecode” in Chapter 3.)
