Chapter 6. Editing in the Timeline > Customizing Track Views

Customizing Track Views

You can view the contents of each track in a sequence in more or less detail, according to your preferences or the task at hand.

In video tracks, each clip can appear as a bar (representing its duration) labeled with its name. Or, the clips in the track can contain thumbnails, small images taken from each clip’s video content. Thumbnails can make it easier to identify each clip in the track. If you view the timeline in enough detail, thumbnails can even help you choose where to edit a clip. Similarly, you can set each audio track to show clips with or without a waveform, a kind of graph of the audio’s power over time. Viewed in enough detail, it’s possible to see particularly loud sounds as spikes in the waveform.
