Shake is a collection of image manipulation engines, including those for compositing, color correcting, and warping. Each engine can be driven by a series of different commands called (interchangeably) nodes, processes, or functions. For example, Brightness is a node that changes the brightness of an image; Pan is a node that moves the image left and right or up and down. Each node usually has a series of parameters (or values) that can be adjusted. These nodes are connected to images and arranged in what is called a process tree because, well, it kind of looks like a tree.
