Lesson 4. RotoShape > Knot Modes

Knot Modes

Four knot modes let you control the softness of a shape on a knot-by-knot basis, as described here:

IconNameHot KeyAction

Group modeF1Moves both the main shape knot and the edge knot associated with it.

Main modeF2Allows you to move only main shape knots; edge knots will not be modified.

Edge modeF3Moves only edges; you can therefore move the edge away from the shape.

Any modeF4Allows you to pick any type of knot.

1.
To create a soft edge, click the Edge mode icon and drag a knot out.

2.
To reset the soft edge, right-click the edge knot and choose Reset Softedge.

Note

Be careful with the soft edges. If you make a shape whose lines overlap, you may get rendering artifacts. To clean up minor artifacts, apply a slight blur with the Blur node.

3.
Go back to Group mode.
