CCD Technology

If you think of a DV camcorder as an electronic eye, then the CCD chip is its retina (Figure A.2). (If you prefer to think of a camcorder as a camera, the CCD is the light-sensitive film emulsion.) The camera lens focuses light on the chip, which generates a flow of electrical impulses. Camcorder circuitry transforms these impulses to make a digital record of whatever the camera lens captured.
