Setting Global vs. Animated Property Values

Now that you know how to view various layer properties, you can set their values. The following sections describe how to set property values globally—that is, how to set a single value for the duration of the layer. Then I'll show you how to animate properties by setting different values at different points in time. But before we continue, it may be helpful to understand a few basic differences between global and animated properties.

As you proceed, you'll notice that a property that has a global, or unchanging, value has an I-beam icon at its current time in the time graph, and the Stopwatch icon next to the property's name appears deselected (Figure 7.5).
