Chapter 6. Layer Editing > Using Markers

Using Markers

Like most non-linear editing programs, After Effects enables you to mark important points in time with a visible stamp. Markers allow you to identify music beats visually and to synchronize visual effects with sound effects. They can also help you quickly move the current time to particular points in the composition. You can add as many as ten numbered markers to the time graph. And in individual layers, you can add any number of markers, which can include text comments to help you identify them. Because markers are for personal reference, they only appear in the time ruler and layer duration bars; they don't appear in the Composition window or in previews or renders.
