Chapter 6. Layer Editing > Changing a Layer's Speed

Changing a Layer's Speed

Changing a layer's playback speed is yet another feature After Effects shares with typical non-linear editing programs (such as Premiere Pro, AVID, and Final Cut). However, you should note a crucial difference between how you set the values in those programs and in After Effects. In many non-linear editing programs, you enter a speed: a value greater than 100 percent increases the speed, and a value less than 100 percent decreases the speed. In After Effects, you can enter a stretch factor value: A stretch factor greater than 100 percent decreases the speed of a layer (stretching, or increasing, its duration), and a stretch factor less than 100 percent increases the speed of a layer.
