Chapter 5. Layer Basics > Selecting Layers

Selecting Layers

Naturally, you must select layers before you can adjust them. In the timeline, selected layer names are highlighted, and their duration bars (in the timeline's time ruler area) have a textured surface that distinguishes them from other layers. In the Composition window, selected layers can appear with handles—six small boxes that demark each layer's boundaries, and that you can use to transform the layer. However, you can specify whether you want these (or other layer controls) to appear in the Comp window. See the section “Viewing Spatial Controls in the Comp Window” in Chapter 7, “Properties and Keyframes,” for more details.
