Importing a Layered File as a Composition

One of After Effects' greatest strengths is its ability to import a layered Photoshop or Illustrator file as a ready-made composition—which, as you'll recall from chapter 1, consists of footage items arranged in time and space. After Effects not only imports all the layers as footage items, but also arranges the layers in a composition of the same dimensions. In essence, the composition replicates the layered file—suddenly transported into the world of After Effects (Figure 2.60).
